On behalf of CSSR and NASSP we would like to thank all the presenters and participants who took part in the Breaking Ranks 2011 School Showcase in San Francisco, CA. With 800 registered participants (most ever) in attendance, school leaders, classroom teachers, support staff, and students were engaged in intensive and relevant personalized learning and teaching conversations. Educators and students came together to share real life strategies, ideas, and challenges so that together they can improve the secondary school experience for everyone! Patricia Fry, principal at Plymouth South High School in Plymouth, MA found the experience to be very valuable.

“The CSSR Showcase was a fantastic opener to the annual NASSP convention. The variety of presentation content was helpful as well as the diversity of states represented. The presentations, as well as the open dialogue at the sessions were not only insightful but also realistic for school leaders in the 21st century. Usually when we attend workshops, they naturally focus on one specific area of the country. I was able to think outside the box when learning from leaders across the country. We are all trying to solve the same problems yet different states present different challenges and obstacles. Learning from experiences shared by other school leaders is invaluable”.

CSSR would like to congratulate Plymouth South High School (Plymouth, MA), Barberton High School (Barberton, OH), and G. Ray Bodley High School (Fulton, NY) for presenting their stories of success in San Francisco. For more than three years, each school has worked extraordinarily hard towards changing the school culture, building a high functioning professional learning community, and personalizing learning and teaching so that all students receive the best education.

CSSR is proud to have provided each of these schools with the professional development, leadership capacity building, and technical assistance needed to make the cultural shift happen. With strong school leaders in place, a strong staff, dedicated parents, and determined students, all three schools are, and always will be, committed to creating, and maintaining, a personalized learning environment! We look forward to continuing our partnership with each school, and wish them the best moving forward. Our partners at NASSP have published a great Showcase summary in the April edition of NewsLeader.
