Ranks™ 2007 Urban Secondary School Showcase, Chicago, IL

Dr. Michael Klonsky,
professor of Education at Nova Southeastern University’s Fischler School
of Education, and director of the Small Schools Workshop, along with Dr.
Nancy Doda, professor at National-Louis University and a highly regarded
middle school consultant, will keynote the Breaking Ranks™ 2007 Urban
Secondary School Showcase in Chicago, IL April 23-24, 2007.
The Showcase convenes more than 20 of the most innovative and successful
middle and high schools from around the country to share their programs
and strategies for success. Schools are chosen to present on the basis
of their outstanding reputations for quality and innovative practices
with challenging populations. Presenting schools share their experiences
with implementing the recommendations and strategies included in NASSP’s
Breaking Ranks in the Middle™ and Breaking Ranks II™.
High schools invited to present this year include: Waukesha North High
School, WI; Boston Arts Academy, MA; Fenway High School, MA; Urban
Academy, NY; School of the Future, NY; DeWitt Clinton High School, NY;
Harmon High School, KS; Cristo Rey Jesuit High School, IL; Dayton Early
College Academy, OH; Lincoln Park High School, IL; Kelvyn Park High
School, IL; David Douglas High School, OR; Hope High School, RI; Little
Village High School’s Multicultural High and Social Justice High, IL;
School of the Future Middle School, NY; Central Middle School, KS;
Thurgood Marshall Middle School, IL; Freeport Intermediate School, TX;
Silverado Middle School, CA; Mabelvale Magnet Middle School, AR; Arundel
Middle School, MD; Lane Middle School, OR; Mission Hill School, MA.
The Showcase will offer presentations, forums, and Hot Topic breakout
sessions that provide participants an opportunity to engage with school
representatives and other participants. Past participants have called
the Showcase, “powerful,” “incredibly informative,” and “some of the
best professional development I’ve ever received.”
